We had a fantastic weekend with 80 degree air temperature and 70 degree water temperature. We went swimming and lolled in the the sun. Of course we ate Dungeness crabs at Dirty Dick's Crab House. The beach was very sparsely populated at this time of year. On our return to Durham we visited the Confederate statue honoring General Pettigrew (in Columbia, NC). His statue has writing all around the base: it mentions that his troops "went farthest at Gettysburg", it honors not just the brave troops but also the women who "kept the home fires burning" and the "faithful and loyal slaves". We then had "gourmet" southern fried chicken at the Golden Skillet in Plymouth (Myron had been dying to try this for 6 years; he's now cured!).
It was clearly a culture-filled weekend.
