We spent the weekend at OBX. It was sunny but cooler than usual. No one was there. The beach was ours! It was strange to look both north and south and see no one; but it was also quite wild and the barren landscape made us feel fragile. The ocean was calm, clear and the breaking waves and stirring wind were the only sounds. The sand was cleansed by the wind, surf and sun. Scattered shells dusted the ripples.The Outer Banks are truly on the outer edges of civilized land when the vacationers have yet to arrive. It is our special place... a sanctuary for sure.
