We were at the Outer Banks this past weekend. The weather was terrific, the sunshine continuous with only a slight breeze. The ocean was jade glass and the beaches were empty except for ghost crabs and sea birds. Hot tubbing under star studded skies, beach walks and climbing desolate dunes occupied our time in our sanctuary by the sea. We drove 20 miles south on the beach road to Rodanthe, passing windswept dunes, sea oats and heron to photograph the beach house where the movie
Nights in Rodanthe was filmed with Richard Gere and Diane Lane. While it was being filmed, a storm caused substantial beach erosion. It is now condemned....as are many old beach houses on the OBX coast due to the undermining of the structures. Nevertheless, the house still stands, braced against the wind and the sea as if it is challenging the cancer that eats at its foundation. Such a romantic place, lonely and beautiful.
Love,
Anna and Myron
