Weekend at OBX

Friends and Family

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my folks and enjoyed Turkey and the fixins'. I made my special apple and pumpkin pies and brined the turkey with herbs and spices. I decided to be a Southern cook as well and whipped up sweet potato casserole with pecans . It was delicious even though I substituted Vermont maple syrup for the brown sugar. You can't get the Vermonter out of me totally.
We drove to out beach house in Nags Head on the Outer Banks of NC to enjoy the weekend.
We hadn't been there since the end of August so we really had to check it out. We knew that we had no damage from Hurricane Sandy but we did not expect so much sand in the driveway and walkway from the storm surge. We shoveled for a full half of a day 18 inches deep heavy sand. Glad we work out!
We enjoyed  the beach walks, the fireplace, Dirty Dick's Crab house and a movie, The Life of Pi, which was quite good.  At Kitty Hawk Kites, Myron decided to try out the Jet Pack. It permits you to fly by using the pressure from water so you can fly over the ocean or any body of water. We will definitely give it a try this summer. That will be an adventure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im1iNq02Kz0

Taiko Drumming!!!

When we were in Japan, Chikage had a Taiko drumming lesson after school. We went to watch and I ended up actually taking the lesson too! Myron was the photographer for this event. The kids were great and I "ain't got no rhythm"! But I managed with enthusiasm. Here are some pictures. The teacher was terrific and the towels on the drums were to lesson the noise to avoid bothering the neighbors near the school where the lesson was held......Great fun and Chikage and Hiroko are good at this... Also it is a workout!
